The 4th of July Junior show is quickly approaching. Attached is the sponsorship sheet. The sponsor sheet is given to you so that you can get sponsors for the events at the WHO Junior Show which will be held July 2nd and 3rd 2022 at the Twisted Bit Arena in Veneta.

The sponsorship money is put straight into the junior account and helps to go towards things like the junior year end awards, Interstate sweatshirts and our junior scholarship program. Each sponsor that you obtain will have their names announced at the junior show during the event they choose.

The top 2 juniors that bring in the most sponsorship $$$ will be getting awards. In trying to make this show as fun for EVERYONE there will be worker raffles as well. This show is an important fundraiser for the WHO Juniors. As always we will need volunteers throughout the weekend, and a reminder to juniors that they are expected to work when they are not riding.

Wow, 2022 seems like it is blowing by as it is already May. As we get into May, it looks like the show calendar is busy for the next couple of months. It’s time to really start thinking about Interstate and making travel plans. At the top of the list should be supporting your Princesses as they are very busy, not only in their WHO life but their high school life, with sports, jobs, etc. If you are waiting around for them to reach out to you, maybe take the initiative and reach out to them and ask how they’re doing. I’m sure they are stressed with high school life and WHO on their mind. We still need a couple of committee positions filled.

We need some interest in a judges and timers chair to take care of judges and timers. Tom Delker is the Rules committee chair, Tyler Weber is the Scholarship committee chair, Pam Fletcher will be taking care of Gold Card and Hall of Fame, and we still need someone to lead us to a wonderful convention. If you are interested in getting involved, or do have some ideas that can help us grow, this is a great start to get involved. A couple of shows to keep in mind are Princess McKinley’s show (7/23 & 7/24) and the Summer show (7/30 & 7/31). The show locations will all be added to the schedule once we get things locked in. Can’t wait to see everyone in the arena.

Congratulations to Jake Owens for winning the Junior scholarship for 2021! As the year winds down, the final piece for our juniors is 2021 Convention! At convention, we have three awards for our juniors. Our Rookie of the year is specifically for our juniors who’s first year was the 2020-2021 WHO season. We also have the most Improved award and Sportsmanship award. Be on the lookout for a list of eligible first year juniors for the Rookie of the Year award. Voting will be open until November 28th.

Congratulations to Dally Wheeler and Sophie for being the hi-point Junior for 2020-21 season, and to all of the juniors who made it to the top 10 standings this year.

• You must wear western attire to ride. This includes the Open Show on Friday. Arena crew must also wear western attire. No baseball caps

• Music requests can be sent to Kelsey Bault at kelseybault@gmail.com she will do her best to fulfill your request however, requests are mostly focused on events that run one at a time, Jr/Sr Barrels, 2 man and 4 man events.

• No dogs in the arena building

• No horses in the RV park

• Generator curfew is 10:00 p.m.

• They do have 3 showers each for men and women.

• If you are judging or timing at Interstate there is a mandatory judges and timers meeting at 2:00 on Friday, this is new this year.

As you know, we did not have our traditional convention and year-end general meeting over this past weekend. The board is currently trying to put together a way for everyone to receive year end awards and conduct our annual general membership meeting, along with nominating and electing a new slate of officers and board members for the 2021 year.

Tully had organized and rearranged plans for our convention and meeting to be in the Salem Saddle Club arena, but with the now newer state restrictions, that is no longer possible either. It is looking very unlikely we will be able to gather as a group within the next couple of months.

The board is brainstorming ideas on ways to get awards handed out and elect new 2021officers and board members. We would appreciate ideas from you. If any of you happen to have a creative way to finish our business of the 2020 year please drop me a message or give me a call. 

We are sending out emails to everyone with this same information. I ask that you contact me through a private message or a phone call if you do not receive your email. No response means all is good. 

If you know of anyone that is not receiving emails from WHO through Yvonne Cook, or not receiving their newsletters in the mail, please let us know.

We are very sorry that our year is ending up in this manner. We are sorry that those of you that look forward to our award ceremony and the well-deserved recognition to those of you who have won awards and worked hard within WHO this year are not receiving the sendoff and thankful appreciation you so deserve. We are just trying to wrap up this year so that we can start fresh and new in 2021.

We hope to have plans within a week and will notify members. Watch for notices, postings, emails, mail, etc. We are hoping all business can be completed by the end of January or early February.

This year due to Covid restrictions we are holding convention at the indoor arena at the Salem Saddle Club. They will be providing two propane heaters, but it would be appreciated if anyone who has propane heaters bring those also. Please bring your own chairs if possible. The saddle club has limited seating bleachers, so bringing your own chairs will help. We will have access to the clubroom but are limited on the number of people allowed in at one time to warm up so dress accordingly for cold weather.

Notice to all WHO members and especially those of us that know the Interstate experience, hoping to attend, or care about the future of Interstate, we are in need of your help this year.  There is only ONE Interstate princess this year!! (One total - from both states.) Our Hailey Ferris is trying to collect enough financial sponsorship money to ensure Interstate happens. This is a unique year in that we just maybe need to send our ad/sponsorship money in even if we have not had contact yet with Hailey or take charge and contact her ourselves if you have not yet heard from her. She is busy. She cannot be everywhere. She is trying to get to shows in both states. She stepped in at the last minute because she was asked to and because of the importance Interstate has always been to Hailey and her family even though they have not been a part of it for several years now. They care about it. If you are like Jim, he has always said, “I’m not giving if they don’t come and ask me personally.” Well this year is different. Jim has sent his sponsorship without talking to Hailey. Hailey is busy working on Jim’s poem

We all need to take it upon ourselves if we want financial backing for interstate. It is not right to expect that one person raise enough money for all the rest of us to go have fun and compete. Hello Juniors!

I want to start by saying how proud I am of all of you this season! Many of you have made big leaps in improving your horsemanship, many of you have stepped out of your comfort zones this year and have succeeded leaps and bounds! You should all be very proud of yourselves. Our WHO Juniors were STRONG at Interstate! You all showed great teamwork, sportsmanship and heart! Let’s keep the momentum going in 2019!

Hello WHO Family,

I am super excited for this summer and the shows lined up. I am doing a fundraiser for Interstate by selling WHO Sweatshirts, as this year, there will not be any given to those qualifying for Interstate. So, here is your opportunity to help support myself and Interstate all while looking cute and staying warm. There will be a sign up for sweatshirts at the remaining shows. Checks can be made out to WHO. Payment and orders are needed by July 22nd at the conclusion of my benefit show. Sweatshirts will be handed out no later than at the Beat Washington Show in August.

Any questions, let myself or Stacey Hardin know. I will also be collecting pop bottles at the shows as another way to raise money for Interstate. So please bring me your pop bottles! I hope everyone has had a chance to check out the new WHO Points page, there is a link on the WHO website. This provides you a great place to check your horse/rider numbers, view results, current averages, points and classifications. If you are uncertain about your classification or think that you may have rated up in a class you might want to take the time to double check them prior to entering a show. Remember if you run out of your classified class you are running for TIME ONLY. Your time will not count for averages nor will your points count. Also, I know we have been saying to for years, but I want to remind you that it is YOUR responsibility to check your entries on the pink sheets at the show to make sure that your horse/rider numbers and times are written down correctly. Results are posted as they are written on those class sheets and we go by numbers, so if it is incorrect or not written at all it won’t be recorded. The ONLY exception to this is new riders who have not yet been issued numbers. I hope you understand that it is much easier for you to double check your own information on the pink sheets than it is for the point secretaries to look up numbers/name for everyone at the show. Since I am only human, please make sure to let me know if you come across a mistake on your information or results.

Your support has helped us through this and has made us proud. Thank you also WHO for your contribution to Alzheimer's Association in Evelyn's name. Remember Oct. 8 is our walk in Springfield. You can still donate to the team, join in as a team member, or just plan to come have fun with us that day.
